Durango Friends of the Arts, an all volunteer organization, is the outgrowth of the Four Corners Opera Guild, and was founded in January of 1991 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of the arts.   Its goal is to aid in the funding, through grants, of performing and visual arts projects and programs which will provide educational and cultural benefits; to support local artists, individually and as a group; to encourage cultural diversity in the promotion of selected projects and to support projects which will benefit the greatest number of people.  While it enjoys a partnership with Durango Arts Center, DFA is autonomous.

Membership is open to all and you can join any time throughout the year.  Guests are always welcome.  The meetings are announced in the membership Newsletter as well as the Durango Herald.  Annual dues are $25.00.  New members who join in July or after, pay only $12.50 for the balance of the year.  All monies raised from the diversified fund raisers are allocated annually by the Grants Committee.

In 2006, grants totaling almost $27,000 are being awarded to 23 local performing and visual arts programs and organizations.  Including the 2006 grants being awarded, DFA has distributed more than $220,000 back to the arts community.  Grant applications are available after October 1 at the reception desk in the Durango Arts Center’s Gallery or from our Web Site.  Applications must be completed and submitted by October 30.  Recipients are then notified in January.
